I was born in the city of Havana in 1969 and my first steps into the world of art began in 1987 with the two years I studied at the Industrial Design Institute in Havana. I also attended the San Alejandro Art Academy, graduating in 1991.Then, entered the world of design, working in the exhibitions department at the Science Academy of Cuba, where I produced graphic art for their shows. Because of my passion to produce art, I am consistently pushing myself to be surrounded by artists and people of any type. This is what drives me to develop creatively.
Wanting to further challenge myself and develop artistically, I decided to join the crew at the Center for the Development of Visual Arts where I continued to work on graphic design and assist with their exhibitions. This allowed me the opportunity to meet with well known artists in Havana. It was through my collaborations with them, along with getting to know their thoughts and artistic concepts, that gave me the impetus in 1993 to finally join the Experimental Graphic Workshop of Havana (el Taller). While there, I focused primarily on printmaking, but mainly making my own graphic art. Through 2006 I worked as an independent artist. Later that year I abandoned my home island to become a permanent resident of the United States, where I continue my artistic work, participating in art venues both here and abroad.
I highly enjoy the dynamics of sound, color, and the lights of the city although I strongly identify with nature, the natural environment. My work exists precisely as the reconciliation of these two factors. It abides in a space that is defined by the influence and knowledge of the visual arts with its broad spectrum of styles and color, as well as the ingenuity and wonder with which we approach the unknown.
