Elmer's Craft Bond for Fabric and Paper

The reason I chose this stuff is mostly because I had a full bottle on hand! Big confession here- I collect glue- no kidding! Ever since Grrrrip glue became impossible to find I have been on the look out for a replacement. They ALL claim to do the same thing, but I know that they are different by the smell. Yes, that's me in the glue dept.of Michael's, opening bottles to find the one that smells like good old Grrrrip.
Really my first consideration was washability. If you can throw this in the washing machine, I'm certain that it will hold up to a few raindrops!
And my "other" first consideration was glossiness. I want the shine without the stiffness of vinyl....more like oilcloth was what I was looking for.

You found the right stuff for this project! Fascinating! And it sure does look like the old oilcloth. Great shoe possibilities, too. Thanks for sharing all the tips. Beautiful results!
