| | | Faux Umbrella | | | | You will need a 9 1/2" piece of cotton, a wooden dowel (I used a knitting needle) cut to 6". Then whittle the cut end into a point. (alternately you might be able to use a pencil sharpener. I did and it worked well) You will also need bamboo shish-kebab skewers. Cut eight 4" pieces from the skewers. Heavy scissors usually will do the trick. Use nice straight ones, and file the rough edges with an emery board.
Step 1. Cut a 9 1/2 " circle of untreated cotton. Glue finish the outer edge and the center hole (cut this hole about1/8 ") Step 2. Divide the circle into 8 equal parts by pressing creases. On the wrong side draw these lines marking each line ONE INCH from center point. Step 3. For each spoke casing: fold at the line. Sew from the outer edge of circle to the 1" mark, 3/8" from the fold.
