Vareuse et Béret Basque Pour Costume Marin

Matching ensemble of jacket, skirt and beret make up this early 1900's ensemble for your own darling Bleuette! Adapted from an LSDS pattern of 1908, this outfit will warm your heart with its classic silhouette of the early 20th century.

My version is primarily sewn from 100 % wool suiting in a tiny woven plaid of navy blue. The crisp sailor collar is silk dupioni in cream. Under the front opening of the pea jacket is a plastron made from ANTIQUE silk in a vibrant shade of lipstick red. I embroidered by hand the ecru polks-dots that embellish the plastron, as seen in the illustration from La Semaine de Suzette. This clever panel enables the jacket to be worn as a blouse.

I applied by hand very narrow (1mm) soutache in scarlet red (imported from Austria) to embelish by hand the collar, cuffs, and skirt hem. And a beautiful 100% silk satin ribbon forms the smart tie that runs underneath the collar. I made two hand worked loops to secure the tie under the collar.

The jacket closes with one tiny metal snap at the plastron, and two metal hooks and hand worked loops at the center front. The skirt closes with two snaps at the back.

And of course there is a matching beret- complete with hand embroidered anchor. This version was constructed from 100% wool crepe, and embroidered with silk thread.

So charming and feminine , this outfit is sure to make you swoon!!!
