Jay McMahan M.A. Houston, TxI am a visual artist specializing in capturing the visual effects of urban decay. It is my observation, that we, as casual members of society, often never see the city as it really exists. We see only general images and memories of architecture and their surroundings. We say we have seen the city because we have driven along one street, parked in one place, visited one building. But what of the content? The colors, forms, textures, and people that make up the city? Do we see these critical elements? As an artist, I am dissecting the city into its microcosms of value and space, turning them into stolen moments of history. Using the camera as a tool, I am influenced by the abstract color field painters and try to suggest a new series of questions both aesthetically and socially.
