Pivoting on a Moment Pivoting on a Moment
Pivoting on a Moment is a large (over 5 foot) zoetrope which has 6 levels of animation. The short video sequences form a constellation around the theme of the World Trade Centre - it's construction, image of Progress and eventually 9/11...
Automata Automata
Well, I've been making some automata, and here they are... The melting snowman just sort of popped into my head. I really wanted his nose too fall off too, but that mechanism fought the main mechanism, so it is unsolved for the moment... The fly seems to be dying...
A Sight for One Eye A Sight for One Eye
On entering the gallery, one is first struck by the humming and pulsing of a small motor. The piece itself is visible in the subdued lighting at the far side of the room, and projected onto a wall is a strange and hypnotic video. The work consists of a very ordinary bath, in which sits a figure made mainly from chicken wire. The figure has a rather old-fashioned video camera for a head and appears to be watching or filming (or both?) it's own thighs as they rise and fall relentlessly in the clear water.
Fax Machine Dawn Chorus Fax Machine Dawn Chorus
All is quiet in the office, long before people arrive for work... As dawn breaks and the light seeps into the room like a tide, gradual and soft, suddenly an old-fashioned cassette player bursts into life, singing it's electronic song. Another and another join in until six machines are singing their little transistors out, reassuring one another that all is well.
The Treachery of Michael Fish The Treachery of Michael Fish
Now, Michael, I'm not saying that you're treacherous! And I know everyone misquoted you after the hurricane debacle... no no no, this is about climate change denial. That only when climate change manifests as weather change will the rattling teacups of middle England be put down, and the enormity of the situation dawn (too late) on those who could have helped prevent it. On a tiny tea table sit a cup of tea and a cream bun on a plate.
Joy, Hope, Fear Joy, Hope, Fear
A triptych of three baths arranged side-by-side in a dark space. The first, Joy , is filled with white mountains made of wax. Flooding this scene is misty water, and submerged in a wide valley shine a few tiny white lights, casting a pale glow onto the slopes above.
TANK TANK
The gentle drop in cabin pressure alerts you before the pilot that the plane has started its descent towards the city far below in the dark night. At first a foggy neon glow, the arteries of motorways and streets gradually separate into delicate pinpricks of orange... but then you think yoi catch something else, but you're not sure - a shadow, a movement.
 Landfall I & II  Landfall I & II
On the beach at dusk, as the tide recedes, they emerge from the waves. Harbingers of a different place, a new state of being. Contained, fortified, pod-like. They stare ahead, far from home. These small sculptures are made from concrete, with cat's eyes which reflect back torchlight. Landfall II (right and below) Suggesting the presence of some unknown life form, Sarah Bunker's Landfall creates a sense of mystery, which is both magically intriguing and full of potential threat.
Before & After Leaving Before & After Leaving
What would it be like if sea levels rose so rapidly that houses were abandoned and the sea pressed up against them? This is a video which explores that possibility.
