Bio

Christina Loraine, b. 1981, is originally from rural west-central Illinois. She never knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up and ended up taking the Long Road. At age 17 she joined the Army National Guard, went on to study Philosophy at Western Illinois University, and later relocated to Atlanta in 2002. Before she knew it she was looking back on another chapter in her life, five years as an accomplished Executive Recruiter. In 2006 she began focusing on her first love, art. The following year she began exhibiting her work in galleries in Atlanta. During this time she also met her husband and in 2009 became mother to son, Holden. In 2010 her husband's job brought the family of three to the Chicagoland area where she works from her home studio.

Artist Statement

2012: my art is evolving, and so must my statement..say tuned for something more defined...

2006-2011 Artist Statement:
Christina Loraine’s art is best described as a juxtaposition of beauty and grime. She has always seen the dualism inherent in all things in life and through her art hopes to show that both sides are reliant upon the other. She’s drawn to subjects that initially seem to be at one extreme or the other: pretty roses and gritty motorcycles, for example. Having a severe astigmatism all her life has also aided in her artistic perspective. Christina prefers to paint in dim light where shadow and light can play an active part in the creation process. Being self taught, Christina has developed her own unique style and technique; she enjoys painting with her finger tips and works primarily with acrylic and paper on canvas.
