With a highly diverse background in the creative fields, Daniela Nikolaeva is a versatile artist working in fine art, graphic design, web design, and animation. The captivating subjects of her art are strongly tied to conceptual and philosophical ideas surrounding human nature, emotion, and inspiration.
Born in Bulgaria, she completed her Master’s degree at The Academy of Art in Sofia. There, she was twice-recipient of a grant from the National Union of Bulgarian Artists, and an award–wining participant at a National Retrospective Exhibition for Graphic Design.
Daniela began her career as a graphic designer at the Advertising Department of ZUM (Sofia) - the largest department store in Bulgaria. An example of her design work there - a bridal attire arangment, was featured in "Neue Werbung" magazine.
In the 90’s Daniela worked as a fine artist in Italy. She exhibited pastel drawings and watercolor paintings in Paris, Lyon, Menton (France); Verona, Riva Dell Garda, Alassio (Italy); in Prague (Czech Republic), and in Bulgaria. In '93 Daniela immigrated to California USA, where she studied digital arts and web design at BCC, Berkeley, CA.
In April, 2011 her design work was featured in a retrospective exhibition for graphic design in Sofia.
In May-July of 2011 she held a solo exhibit “Music to Your Eyes” in San Francisco, CA, featuring mixed media paintings, live music performance, and video projections.
Daniela is a First prize winner of 2010's competition for professional artists in USA "Summer Pastel Challenge". She has received several awards for her drawings and paintings, and design work. Her art and design work have been published in German, Bulgarian, and American magazines.
Currently, Nikolaeva is a professor at Berkeley City College and at The Art Institute of California SF, where she teaches classes related to digital imaging, drawing, animation, web design, and graphic design.
