In sports, everybody is a Monday morning quarterback; including the artist. After the game has been played or the story has been reported it is the job of the editorial cartoonist to give a very loud and very clear opinon visually. Unlike the writer who has a column to express their opinion, the artist has one shot to express an opinion that even if readers don't agree with, at least will understand the point being made.
