BIO
Artist, Author, former Surgical Nurse, and 7th Degree Black Belt. Sabina Wise has a colorful and varied background from sharing the comic stage with RoseAnne Barr to judging a National Karate Championship alongside Chuck Norris.

If there's one thing that has terrified Sabina it's been boredom. This is perhaps why she, who is originally from southern Germany but has lived in Salt Lake City, Utah for many years, has grown professionally by multiplying both her interests and her areas of work.

Her studies in medicine allowed her an intimate perspective on the human body that few artists are fortunate to achieve. After attending the University of Utah she joined the military to become a surgical nurse. Working in the Operating Room, she knew she would be following in the steps of Michelangelo in his pursuit to better understand the human form through dissection.

Then there is her love of martial arts and yoga. She has studied and instructed martial arts for over thirty years acquiring a 7th Degree Black Belt (holding black belt rank in three different styles). She has taught yoga for more than seven years. Nearly dying from Graves Disease in 1989 began Sabina's passion for yoga and spawned the book The Sugar Addict's Diet (Safe Goods Publishing, 2001).

And, of course, her passion for art has encompassed such diverse areas as fashion and medical illustration, portraits and caricatures (over 5,000 faces drawn!). Sabina began drawing people at age three and received her first portrait commission at sixteen. She won her first art competition (a county show) at seven. Today she has over 2700 hundred collections in twenty-eight countries around the world and 32 U.S. states.

Lately, Sabina has begun to notice that the most beautiful things in life are often the most mundane.

Sabina Wise Collectible Abstract Art
Although Sabina Wise has been an artist since she could hold a pencil, she has been doing abstract art for only the last few years (since 2005). Once, a sworn realist, she is now passionately obsessed with the goal of creating the perfect abstract painting, one that is an ultimate expression of beauty. As yet, her goal is unachieved but each painting brings it a little closer.

Her Modular Metal Art
An absolutely original concept conceived and developed by Sabina herself. Many assume these artworks are done with patinas, acids, or chemicals burned into copper plate, or that they are fired enamel. We've even heard that they can look like dichroic glass!

But it is, instead, an intricate painting process (developed over four years time): an original recipe that incorporates more than ten different ingredients (metallics, texture, gold leafing, acrylic and oil), in as many layers, to create a stunning translucent effect. Each piece is cut and mounted to a modular wooden frame 1 1/2" deep.

The paintings may also have anywhere from five to fifty coats of varnish applied. It's a lengthy process taking more than 100 hours to completion (metal prep work, painting and drying of each layer, varnishing, curing, cutting, and mounting). The metal surface is galvanized, a combination of steel and zinc to help prevent corrosion.

Every piece of art is signed*, dated, documented, and photographically catalogued. Artwork with a history is artwork that increases in value over time, making every piece an investment as well as a purchase.

The benefits of modular pieces:
1) Easy to ship, store, or move.
2) Hang all together or separately in various locations.
3) Contract or expand to fill a wider area.
4) Fit into a horizontal or vertical space.
5) Hang end to end to fill a long narrow space.
6) Hang at an angle down a staircase.
7) No glass frame to break.
8) Give one as a gift, keep the rest for yourself!

*Signed most often on the back to preserve the beauty of the piece or its hangability...abstracts can be hung in a variety of ways.
