About

I am a self taught artist, living in Co.Westmeath in Ireland. I am influenced by people, places and stories that touch my life and leave a mark on my soul.
I paint using primarily oils and mix in various substances to create texture, depending on the piece I am creating. To date most of my work has been carried out using a pallet knife rather than a brush, although I do at times experiment with brush stroke. I love to take a feeling, an emotion,or a story someone shared and work with it on canvas to capture it in colour.
Texture is important to me and I love to close my eyes and run my fingers over the piece when it's dry and enjoy how the painting feels.

In April 2010  I set up a temporary art gallery at the Garden Centre in Delvin, Co.Westmeath along with Dave O'Shea who now runs The Chimera Gallery in Mullingar. 'The Garden Gallery' was officially opened by Graham knuttel on Oct 23rd 2010 and became a permanent feature. In 2014 the garden centre was closed to concentrate solely on the gallery and it has been renamed 'Purple Raven Art'  and now proudly hosts the work of many artists and local and Irish craft work. http://purpleravenart.com. I currently run pallet knife painting workshops at Purple Raven Art gallery in Co. Westmeath

My paintings were reproduced on panels as part of the award winning Calor Gas garden in Bloom in the phoenix park 2014, designed by Dawn Aston.

In February 2015 one of my birch tree pieces was chosen by Architect
Dermot Bannon to feature in RTE's 'Room to improve'.

My work has been published in a cookery book, in aid of The Scoop Foundations charity fundraising. Scoop are a non profit Irish organisation, building schools and futures for impoverished children in Cambodia and India.

Since launching my work in 2009, my art has found it's way into many private collections here in Ireland, around Europe and as far as Antigua, The Cayman Islands and South Africa. It also made it's way to the walls of O' Farrell Gallery, Port Chester in New York.

My work has been presented in International Contemporary Masters  published by World Wide Art Books and in International Contemporary Artists published by ICA publishing.

Enjoy browsing through my art.
