Self taught Jose embarks with his intent as a healing tool for his personal trauma, his contribution attempts to rearrange a shift in energy through perception. It is through this medium that Jose facilitates his multiiverse.
He shares his perspective on life, mystery and awareness with only one expectation: to provoke the viewer. Art is created as the viewer perceives. Only then, genuine communication occurs.
All surfaces are recycled materials discarded from shops, print shops and frame shops. Giving this discarded material a second opportunity is a reaffirmation that life gives us more than one path. Jose wants to believe all survivors are proof of this conviction.
Jose Alfredo Trevino was born in the Southwest of the United States. He was raised in Cd. Juarez Chihuahua Mexico where the illusory search for “The American Dream” is broken by the reality in the obstacles of crossing the Rio Grand. Amongst this tragedy and resilience Jose lost himself in others' agendas.
A trip to Mexico City as a teenager transformed his appreciation for the visual arts. Viewing the great murals of David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, and Jose Clememte Orozco, the Pre-colombian frescos, the landscape and volcanoes of Tlaxcala and the newly discovered ruins in Mexico City awakened a sense of belonging never experienced before. He discovered that through the arts there is a way to mitigate the fear and confusion of his cultural identity and aspirations.
Nonetheless Jose engaged in self-destructive behavior which became for him a painful rite of passage into adulthood. He confronted, survived, and was transformed through the violence that swept northern Mexico in the 1980's.
It was in college that Jose recognized the healing properties of art. As patients in mental hospitals can use art for therapy, Jose's application of the human spirit on canvas allowed him to erupt his self loathing and heal himself. Art gave Jose permission to define himself by his spirit's resilience rather then the isms and stereotypes of the world. He received Bachelors Degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Mc Murry Univerity and began to integrate his personal psychology, place in the world, and spirits expression.
When Jose returned to his hometown after University he again encountered the uncanny, this time in a benevolent form rather than a violent one. He delved deeper into his prehispanic roots; being a Mestizo he synchronisticly encountered magic and the help of men of knowledge. They cajoled him to open an alternate reality parallel to this one and arrive at a different cognitive structure of awareness; one in which two opposing cognative structures can coincide without damage to the self.
It was in San Francisco California where a series of steps (Tensegrity, meditation and lectures by Nassim Haramein ) allowed Jose to clear his path of intent. Within this energy Jose's art transformed from a tool for self healing into a healing tool for any viewer. This art is the culmination of a 30 year intention to bring healing through perception and communicate essence to the viewer. Thus the vacuum within can transform into intent ,the driving force of one's universe, and heal.
Jose currently lives in San Francisco California where he works in the mental health industry. He has led workshops for recovering addicts and survivors since 2001. He continues to deepen his understanding about the mystery and nuance of healing through his work, art, and relationships.
