My recent work has moved away from social justice themes into work that I associate with music, particularly jazz.

My mixed media work uses a wide range of materials layered onto canvas. I begin most pieces by bonding paper onto canvas. After that I add materials that vary from barbed wire to silk organza. Other materials I use include found objects, leather, cardboard, gold leaf, playing cards, postage stamps, razor blades, gravel, acrylic caulk, wire, nails, string, photographs, sand, sketches, rags, beads and more.

Most of my collage work to date has focused on social justice issues that call out to many of us in some manner. My artwork on social justice is not intended to be 'pretty'. It's intended to make people think. If my work makes you think, I consider it a success.

I visited Egypt recently on a photo shoot that was both a delight and a surprise. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, where I spent time studying the treasures of King Tut. This image is just one example of a series of travel-related image transfers that I exhibited in 2007.

These images invite the viewer to pause and experience China's mystical sugerloaf limestone mountains along the Li River. I devoted an entire day to experiencing the river aboard a small boat. The scenery here has been the subject of Chinese scroll painting for hundreds of years.

Most people who visit Venice fall in love with it. It's a city of superlatives---and quite possibly the most beautiful and most engaging city in Italy. My image transfers of Venice seem to capture the "golden glow" that seems to be a part of the city's mystique.
