1/16/12 | | So I just recently finished my student teaching at the Academy in Manayunk in Philadelphia. This school really was everything I could have asked for and more in a student teaching experience. It enabled me to learn so much about teaching first hand from a school and teachers that teach to best accommodate their students. I plan to use the teaching methods throughout my teaching career. After I finished my student teaching, I headed to Florida for the holidays. When I came back 3 weeks later, it made me very sad to know that I wasn't going back to such a wonderful school and such great students. But now I am on to great new adventures!!
The pictures that are posted are from the "Art of Student Teaching" exhibit at Moore College of Art and Design where I was able to showcase my students work from the lessons I taught! | |

7/6/10 This is a piece I just started on yesterday when I was having Artists Block with my painting of the baby. I can't believe that is taking me SSOOO loongg. Anyway, I just kind of went wild on this painting with not much intent. I quickly painted an outline of a dress on a blank canvas and put random items inside. Combining fashion and art (and using the color Permanent Rose) seems to be the direction I usually go when I don't know what else to paint. Then I took a pic on my cell phone (because paintings always look better through the viewer on your cell phone..- right Jane??). From this point, I feel like it needs something but I don't know what. Soo.. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone or if you think I should scratch the whole thing all together! Thanks ppls |

Suzanne McClelland: A Heap of Greens
I’ve been looking at Suzanne
McClelland’s work for some time now ever since I saw her featured in a
magazine. I love to look at other artists work to learn about their techniques
and inspirations. I love the looseness of her strokes and how it seems like
they were so fearlessly put on the canvas. One of the hardest and most exciting
things for me as an artist is to have a blank canvas in front of me, ready to start a
painting. I think that being timid when starting a painting can cause the
painting to be a failure. Otherwise, you’re not loose which means you’re
probably unable to be free to let your creative juices flow.
I know that this particular
piece is of a landscape. I adore her use of color and type in this photo and
how it carries your eye from the bottom left to the top right. From a distance,
it looks like it could be a normal painting of a landscape, but when you look closer, you see the complexities and the use of collage. What I love most about this painting is
that she took such a simple topic as a landscape and created something so original
and unique out of it. The landscape becomes an idea based on how she views the
world. The idea of taking something so straightforward and creating a conversation
about it is something that really interests me.

So this is my first blog entry. Bear with me and we'll see how it goes! :)
I'm still living in Pittsburgh and have been on the hunt for jobs in Philadelphia. It has been more difficult than I thought, especially with the state of the economy, i suppose. I am so excited to be on my own. I can't even tell you. Everybody has been so supportive in this, my friends, family, Brent. Although, searching for a job has been my top priority which leaves little time to do what I love most: Paint. I hope that someday painting can become a higher priority in my life.
I have been working on a few commissions for friends and family, which I am so excited about. I feel so honored that the people that I'm close to like my work so much that they want their own personalized piece. First there was the large and in charge painting for Aunt Lori, which is now displayed above her couch. There are two smaller ones that I'm not so sure I can talk about, but I'll be posting the photos of them soon!!
Until nexttime! Love Yinz
