The intent in my work is to push abstract paintings as far into new domains as possible.  That's essential, and is at the core of the Western tradition.  I don't see abstraction as a negation of realism.  It's a style of painting  expressing ideas in psychology, philosophy and spirituality in a unique way.  Abstract art has ancient roots and I think that it needs to be re-invented again and again.  All great art is abstract, rigorous and deeply felt.

I'm working with free-form naturalism, letting the materials dictate much of how the images are arrived at in my paintings.  I like to use paint like clay, to form three-dimensional surfaces that express the earth's most extraordinary physical traits;  its fissures, eruptions and the remains of catastrophic geological events.  My palette consists of earth colors, but sometimes acid, almost chemical colors can be indicative of psychological degradation.  I'm inspired by the motions of liquids and solids, with the sinewy lines in between.  I see an abstraction that references the huge forces of  nature (including ourselves,
earth & the cosmos)  that are constantly in motion.   I attempt to expand the expressions of a profound legacy others have created.
