I’ve had a long-standing fascination with ancient mosaics. The reality of my inspirational source material is wonderful, but I also find them useful as an abstract device - for color, texture and composition. The sense of their antiquity seems to lend a poignancy to me - an emotional reminder that enriches the paintings in which I use them.
