Soul Searching...

Soul Searching... 10/8/07

There comes a point in your life as an artist where you begin to re-evaluate what your creative voice is being utilized for, how your creative contribution and medium of choice is going to inspire others.  While visiting galleries around NYC, I am never ceased to be amazed or disappointed by the lack of political art on display when our country is in the midst of a warFreedom is not free. I cannot help but ask myself if members of the art community are becoming desensitized by current events? Surely, we the artists; the creative think tanks of society, the dreamers who push the edges of reason beyond corporate agendas and entertainment news...have not gone numb to the world around us.  It may be easy for us to go about our day to day existence while our soldiers; friends, family, husbands, wives, parents and loved ones risk their lives overseas.

We must not forget.... PEACE MATTERS. LIVES DEPEND ON IT.

Those of us in the art community, I think we have a personal and creative responsibility to spread political awareness of the importance of peace through; song, dance, painting, theater, photography...and to also influence art galleries and museums to do the same.
