Can you lose what's most important to you?
Can you lose what's most important to you? 10/28/06

I am painting a woman with a birthmark today.....and thought I would share this from "How Good Do We Have To Be", by Harold S. Kushner.

"Nathaniel Hawethorne wrote a short story, "The Birthmark", about a man who married a beautiful woman who had a small birthmark on her left cheek. She had always thought of it as a beauty spot, but for him, it spoiled her appearance. It kept her from being perfect. He became so obsessed with the birthmark that it became all he could see. He could no longer see her beauty; he could only focus on the flaw. As a result, the woman agreed to undergo a difficult procedure to remove it. After the
procedure, the birthmark faded and disappeared, but the woman began to fade as well, and died shortly after. The birthmark was connected to the mystery of her life and beauty. It was the bond by which an angelic spirit kept itself housed in a mortal human body. But that wasn't enough for the husband. He wasn't satisfied with the beauty of body and spirit. He wanted perfection, and as a result he ended up with nothing."

I will be releasing "The Birthmark" live for the first time at the Dallas Uptown Art Walk on Friday, November 3rd, 2006 at Hibernia Dental Arts, 2701 Hibernia (Boll @ Hibernia, 1 block off of McKinney) as a guest artist to the incredible Kathy Metcalf show, "Here I Am". Join us from 6:30
