I was born Leslie Lynn Bruce in Pasadena, Texas on the 17th of January 1963 to Rita Fern Stallings and Fred Harris Bruce. By the age of three, my parents divorced. My mother moved my one-year old sister, Terri Ann Bruce and I to Houston, Texas. While working two jobs and going to night school, she maintained a middle-class life for her small family.
At the age of nineteen, I married Roland Josef Jung on October 14, 1982. Roland was a truck driver for RebAnda Transportation, a firm that specializes in hauling entertainment gear and stages for superstar groups like U2, The Grateful Dead, The Police, Willie Nelson, Michael Jackson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. During the next eighteen years of my life I was either out on tour with Roland, traveling the United States and Canada or in Texas working as a legal assistant in law firms.
In 2000, Roland and I divorced and I began my journey into self-discoveries. One particular thing I discovered was an interest in painting and the ability to do it extremely well. My muse was the rich artistic culture of Texas and the artists that live and work here. I was struck by the ongoing vitality of Texas, in contrast to other parts of the country and I’m always impressed by the optimism and pride of Texans everywhere. I was suddenly drawn by the muse toward what became my passion and this self-taught artist threw herself into what would be my reason for living.
My paintings express the romance, energy and charm of Texas through masterful application of bold brush strokes and intriguing colors. Displaying a profound knowledge of perspective and composition. The viewer’s eye is most often caught by fascinating details.
My paintings are another way of telling stories of people, places, and dreams, about their optimism or introspection, their innocence or wisdom, their grace and complexity. Though my artwork I bring to you my most precious gift I have, culture.
An active member of the Houston Museum of Fine Art and the Lone Star Art Guild, I have exhibited my works throughout Texas with tremendous success. My work is in public and corporate collections, and in galleries in Texas. I have won numerous juried art shows, awards and honors. I create paintings on commission, on sale at galleries and for sale on my own web site.
