My name is Lynn Jung. As a native born Texas artist, I have always pondered about the power of art. In my opinion, if it were not for art we would not have the culture we have, we would not have the sense of history we have, we would not have the understanding of the world in general that we have, we would not have the understanding of ourselves as flawed, limited and extremely interesting human beings. All of that is given to us by artist contributions and without that, we would be nothing more than animals. That is why we humans make art and it is art that makes us human.
It seems to me essential that an artist’s fuction is to create realities that are not immediately accessible to the general public, bring those realities to the surface in order that people could scrutinize them, discuss them, thereby achieving greater consciousness of themselves and society. I think another very important function is to embody certain kinds of experiences that everyone can relate to in one way or another. Another important function is simply to give expression to deep impulses that many people have but don’t know that they have, until they see them embodied in an artwork.
That is why I purposely try to create artwork that could cut through the white noise of daily life, connect us to the basic emotions that make us human. Paintings, that at first sight look so still and composed, look at them for a moment and you’ll see that they are anything but. There emotions seem to swell, and breath, and fill like sails. Catching the wind, they are not paintings that just wait to be watched. They come and get us and we just surrender into total emersion. They emanate an uncanny force field so strongly magnetic that when you turn away from them, or leave the room, you can still sense there presents.
My paintings are another way of telling stories of people, places, and dreams, about their optimism or introspection, their innocence or wisdom, their grace and complexity. Though my artwork I bring to you my most precious gift I have, culture.
My work is in public and corporate collections, and galleries in Texas. I have won numerous juried art shows, awards and honors. I create paintings on commission, on sale at galleries and for sale on my own web site.
