My fascination with art began when I was a young child growing up in New Orleans, La., and watching my uncle create oil paintings. However, not until attending the University of North Texas and deciding to major in painting and drawing, did I gain the training and confidence to call myself an artist.
Four years of study resulted in a degree and a career as a graphic artist, semipro photographer and an educator. Fine art was put on the back burner, although I continued to dabble. Returning to graduate school in the early eighties to complete a masters degree with an emphasis on painting and a trip to Europe renewed my love for creativity and promoted a more dedicated involvement.
In college, I preferred oil painting but in later years I pursued watercolor, a difficult but fascinating medium. At the same time, I became an avid photographer, sometimes carrying two cameras, to get that special shot, resulting in a collection of thousands of images.
Eight years ago, a move to Sugar Land somehow motivated me to become involved totally with the art community and for the first time I begin competing successfully in art shows as part of the Lone Star Art League, a group of about 1,700 Texan artists. Then, I discovered color pencils and have spent the last four years developing my technique with that wonderful but tedious medium. I am a member of the Color Pencil Society of America and the Wimbeley Valley Art League.
Deciding to retire in May 2008 so that I could spend as much time as possible on creating art, I chose to settle in Wimberley, since I was seeking an active art community in a beautiful part of Texas. It was an excellent decision. The acclaimed energy vortex is at work and I am delighted daily to have the time and talent to pursue my passion in a awesome community.
