| "You don't just take a photograph... you make it." --Ansel Adams
This is my first shot at creating a website. I started out with a Flickr page in 2006, which I still maintain today: www.flickr.com/mikebrown3506
I became interested in urban exploration (UE) about 4 years
ago in 2005, and my interest in that turned into a passion for photography. In
the beginning, I was only taking pictures of abandoned buildings and
structures, but in the last few years I have branched out into a wide variety
of subjects. Trains, old signs, and sporting events are just a few of the
things I enjoy taking pictures of.
I take pictures all over the place. I was born and raised in the western
suburbs of Chicago, and that is primarily where I do most of my work. However,
my photography has taken me to all kinds of places that I probably would not
normally go. I often enjoy driving an hour or more away just to get one shot.
Sometimes it’s worth it just to get that one special shot.
Most people ask me what kind of training I have had. Believe
it or not, I am self-taught and have never taken any formal training, save for
a few seminars here and there. I have been in one show, the Geneva Fine Arts
Fair, where I took first place in 2009 as an emerging artist. That, by far is
my greatest achievement to date.
