Photography is a means of expressing our individual lives or views. It is a way of opening ourselves up for interpretation by others. When I started as a photographer, my goals included drawing the viewer into the photograph for a closer look and hopefully causing discrepancies between the eye and the mind. Through the use of space, cropping, and lighting I dissected the human body into alien shapes and planes. Once the viewer questioned the subject matter's origin, my purpose had been served. The ability to take that which we see everyday and portray its facets from an unfamiliar stance is the cornerstone of my work. This ultimately led me to exploring the unspoken connections beteween people through wedding photography. I usually take a spontaneous stance which tends to bring out initial reactions and sometimes unexpected results. Capturing the emotions and traditions of this splendid event offers up a wide array of visual possibilities which in turn allows me to document the wedding ceremony in a unique and individual way. |
