Part-way through the underpainting

Right now I'm focusing on laying down a base (with greeny-back and white) to get the general feel for the shapes and values of the piece. After this layer is finished, I'll refine the details before moving on to the color phase.

Master's Reproduction- Intro.

Here's my first blog- devoted to painting a reproduction of William Bouguereau's Dante and Virgil in Hell (this is a photo of the original). Scary? Yes. But it's also going to teach me a lot about how to paint figures in the classical style. I'm hoping this will give me plenty of insight and new skills for my future athletic portrait series.
