| Thirteen of the first eighteen years of my life were spent living in Japan where my parents worked as Southern Baptist missionaries. That history gave me an appreciation of the Japanese art as well as an enduring interest in a variety of religious and personal themes in my drawings.
Drawing forms the basis for my interest in art. I have always been fascinated how drawing opens my mind to different ways of thinking. My interests , however, go beyond drawing for its own sake. The works I do are reflections of my changing perceptions and thoughts during the period of time I work on one or more drawings. Choices I make in each drawing are driven by daily experiences as well as a continuing consideration of issues such as the nature of drawing. There is a layering and rethinking of ideas taking place as I work. What looks valid on one day needs work the next day and so on. My work also reflects my appreciation of humor and paradox in life.
