 | | Designs for clothing because fashion is so intriguing to me. I love to draw them and I can sew them from a pattern or modify something already assembled, but don't ask me to make you a pattern for the outfit! :) |
 | | When I am not working or drawing or with family, (and even when I am doing ALL those things) I have a camera very close at hand. You can never take enough photos in life. |

| ART is my True North, my Center, my Peace. Hello, I am Penelope Nelson, a graduate of Southern Illinois University (a degree in Art and Design with a concentration in painting, drawing, and Jewelry fabrication). I have a long history of artistic relatives from very art-influenced regions of Europe, so the desire came naturally. I fully believe most everyone has artistic talent, but that people need to be taught how to look at objects and learn why those appear 3 dimensional. Once someone understands shadows, reflection, and light, a piece of flat paper can take on a 3-dimensional life of its own. I am so fortunate that I have parents who taught me these things early and have been my strongest encouragement and my toughest critcs! In addition to drawing, painting, and jewelry design, I also love sculpture, woodworking, photography, and poetry writing. I have received awards for some of my pieces and have had poetry published. Ah, Europe! What massive, and beautiful people, lands, water, and rich history. Everywhere we went on our recent trip to Paris and parts in Italy the people could not have been more friendly. I of course went a little over-board in the photography department, but it does prove to give us lots to look back on now and reminisce about!

Well, the days are getting longer, but the date is getting closer. Soon I will be amidst the works of the greatest artists of long ago and far, far away. Michelangelo's' Sistine Chapel, architectural beauties such as The Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Mona Lisa, Roman Colosseum, The Vatican museums, and so much more! It is the adventure of a lifetime and I still cannot believe it's real. | | a new addition and a shout out for friendships!

Hello everyone! I've been busy with another portrait! But for a few days over the Holiday I am on vacation. It has been 8 years since I have been back home to Illinois and I am going up to visit some really good friends. I hear the place has changed quite a bit, so I am looking forward to seeing it all!
