| Michael received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration and minors in Art History and Philosophy in 1990 from the University of Delaware, which he attended on a four-year art scholarship. Michael studied for two years with Caldecott award winner Jerry Pinkney while at UD. Bob Straight oversaw Michael's independent studies in London, England. Michael also holds certificates in Adobe Photoshop from Rockhurst University.
The three most inspirational thoughts about art from his UD experience came from 1) Jerry Pinkney who said, "Keep doing it," 2) Bob Straight who said "Painting is a great thing to do on a rainy day," and 3) Norman Sasowsky, who said, after a marathon class of figure drawing, "It kind of hurts your hand, doesn't it?"
Michael has illustrated seven published books, four of which are children's books, as well as many book covers, album covers, posters, and other freelance projects. He is currently senior art director for LinguaText, a publisher of scholarly monographs and textbooks. Michael... |
