| Artist Statement:
I explore the idealized female body and its relationship to the contemporary landscape. The art historical trope of pastoral nude provides the context for this exploration, where I often create violent collisions between various forms of standardized beauty and the grotesque. Imagery appropriated directly from popular fashion and porn magazines oscillates between visibility and invisibility, and comprises machine-like organisms of undulating flesh, disjointed limbs, and externalized internal organs. Sections of bodies cut out with an exacto knife serve as remnants of decay, removal, violence, and censorship, where the female reverts back to a fragile shell of skin, that both forms the exterior silhouette but also evokes interior body spaces, veins, cellular systems, netting, and lace.
