| Working in the textile medium has been a natural for me since I learned to sew when I was a child. I began quiltmaking in a very traditional vein but soon began designing my own quilts that tend to depict still life or garden scenes. I continue to use some traditional quilt elements in my work even though they are not traditional quilts. I love the connection those traditional blocks give me to the countless women of previous generations who drew pleasure out of using their creativity to make something beautiful out of scraps of fabric. I feel that same joy.
Inspiration for my work comes from many places: a particular fabric, a color or combination of colors that catches my imagination, a song lyric or poem, or just some quirky object or scene.
Color plays a dominant role in the approach I take to my work. Whether it is the vibrant energy of bold colors or the beauty of subtle ones, color is central to anything I do.
