About

Daniela Nikolaeva
Painting is my way of traveling, while sitting in my studio, bolted down to a chair. It’s my way of swimming on a river of colors and flying on the tip of my brush. It’s a journey; not necessarily a destination. The viewer only sees the destination, the last stop. But the last stop is the first one too. When a painting is sold the journey begins again in reverse order, stop by stop, back into the mind of the painter, for many years to come and for many more eyes to see. There are many ways to see, as there are many ways to paint. I chose watercolors - not the store-bought ones, but my own pigments that I mix. The pigments are water and light resistant; they will not fade, the painting will be exactly the same centuries from now. It’s not for the faint at heart, though. Some say it is the most difficult medium to muster because it is the most unforgiving one. You can’t make mistakes, because you can’t cover them up. I say, there are no mistakes. Don’t cover up, just follow, retain, control, release....

If a painting wins First prize and “nobody” knows about it...
A jury at a national competition for professional artist in USA selected the painting Fighter as the grand prize winner. Milly - the second painting entered into the competition was awarded a Honorable mentioning. You can see both paintings at the gallery on this site. Please suggest a good place where I could exhibit them, or publicize them and comment on the paintings. Thank you! Daniela
