 | | Arthur Espenet Carpenter ,my father , was one of the most original creative designers of contemporary furniture. His pieces are on display throughout the country, from the Oakland Museum in California to the Yale University Museum back east. Here are just a few of his spectacular pieces. |
 | | Many of my father's old clients have asked me for authentication papers for their pieces of furniture. My father kept pretty good records of his work throughout his life. Usually I can find the old invoice by correlating his numbering system with the invoice #. |

 | | These pieces are just a small sample of what I have made over the the past six years at my father's studio. I enjoy making some of my father's designs, like the three legged coffee table which I think is fantastic . My father in his later years started using color with wood. |
 | | I was put on the lathe at the age of six at my father's shop near Bolinas. I probably spent twenty years turning before I ever made a piece of furniture. I think turning is my main love. |
 | | I love to make jewelry boxes, from the band saw abstract forms which rest on the ground to wall mounted pieces.
|
 | | At the end of the year, sometimes I use all my left over pieces to create small items like boxes. These are simple boxes with splines at their corners for strength and solid wood tops from an assortment of woods, such as claro walnut, carob, mahogany, rosewood, eucalyptus, and bay laurel to name a few.

 | | My father was commissioned by many churches, libraries, and community civic centers to create large works, such as altars, conference tables, study tables, reading tables, lounge chairs, and so forth. One of his most prized commissions was the Mill Valley Library in Mill Valley , California, in 1966, where he made over 100 pieces. In 1997 another wing to the library was added that allowed him to make even more pieces. |

| If you have come to this page to learn about my father, Arthur Espenet Carpenter and his life, I suggest you buy his book, education of a woodsmith. This book took my dad twenty years to write. It took me three years to put together. It fully encompasses his evolution of becoming a furniture maker and designer. There is no way I can even begin to explain him here.
