| Jane Forth has lived and worked in the Blue Ridge Mountains since 1978. A desire to live in a natural environment and pursue organic gardening were primary in relocating away from urban centers. Her work, drawn from an affinity with the atmospheric mountains and woodlands of the Northern Virginia countryside, often has references to the history of its rural farmland within the vision of the meditative quality of nature Forth’s work draws stylistically from many traditions in art-- both Western and Eastern-- and a more recent direction in encaustic painting is exhibited on this website. Of her work, she states” Whatever the season, the colors of the Blue Ridge appear extraordinary: requiring a momentary halt to any thought but to a study of the hue and value of light washing over the ridges. That is the beginning and source of my work.” Her education includes a BFA from The University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
