 | | I paint on re-cycled wooden things for three reasons. I have fun doing it. People enjoy them. And I like to believe that I give new life to these vintage items. Painting on three dimensional wooden things has given me courage to overcome my interior critic. The finished product is fanciful and can be the focus of a room or a hidden surprise. |
 | | I have painted and still do paint (sometimes) on wooden cabinets and other found items, such as furniture. Painting on these things allows me to focus on shapes and colors, without worrying about perfection. I call these works storyboxpaintings because they tell stories with a work painted outside the items and then an interior painting completes and/or contrasts the "story". |
 | | I paint on canvas and wood. Sometimes I paint over the edges of frames and canvases so that the artwork appears 3-dimensional and moves as people walk around it. This method of painting over the edges came as a result of my paintings on vintage furniture, boxes and cabinets. |
 | | I paint on canvas and wood. My paintings vary from abstract to landscape to figurative. Intuition, color, shape and composition are very important for me in my work. |
 | | A few years ago, I fell in love with poster art--the shapes, colors and composition. These characteristics of posters affected my art. I made sure that there were shapes and colors that could be enjoyed from afar and up close to the work. |

| About the Artist ....
As an artist I am searching for subjects that thrill both mind and emotions. I want people to wonder about and to discuss my paintings. When I paint the figure, I want people to wonder about the figure’s environment and what is happening to and with the figure. When I paint landscapes, I know I am successful when people react emotionally as well as intellectually. Currently, I am trying to get those same responses with abstract paintings–which is much more difficult!
During the Studio Tour after 9/11, I enjoyed whoops of surprise as people explored my storyboxes–wooden cabinets painted on the outside and inside. These storyboxes relate events and moods and are meant to remain as fresh yet as familiar as a favorite book.
I love to use colors and shapes to give life to 2-dimensional canvas. I also paint on recycled wood, canvas, and furniture and cabinets. Using recycled objects, I feel that I am giving them a second life with my art.
