| Karen Schmitz is a contemporary representational artist whose passion for landscapes and portraits is reflected in her vivid use of color and light. She enjoys moving back and forth between oils and pastels, and currently has studios in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Pawleys Island SC.
Karen prefers painting in the early morning hours, or just before dusk, when the light has the most color, and the shadows are the longest. she feels that those times of the day always evoke a more emotional impact on her work.
Karen studied fine art and psychology at California State College. Later, she studied at Silvermine Art School and The Hudson Valley Art School, as well as under various artists, including Charles Movalli and David Dunlop.
Karen is a member of The Art Society of Old Greenwich, The Greenwich Art Society, Greenwich Arts Council, The American Society of Portrait Painters, and The Connecticut Society of Portrait Painters. She has numerous awards for both oil and pastel. Her work... |
