| I am a Maori women from New Zealand. The name of this art form is Raranga which means weaving. I got inspired because Raranga is part of my culture. This led me to learn the methods and skills or weaving to pass the knowledge on to my children. This will enable them to teach their children and so the knowledge never dies. We weave with our hands and not a loom. Its an amazing process. I learned how to weave from a woman called Tracy Huxford who worked for Te Kokiri Development Consultancy in Levin, New Zealand. I have been weaving for 10 years and there is still more to learn. Weaving is apart of my life and I will keeping doing this for the rest of my life. |
