| BACKGROUND Born in Holland to a Dutch family of artists (for some links see below), I nevertheless always thought of myself as a writer. About 8 years ago, prompted by my French mother, I picked up a paintbrush dipped in watercolor and was instantly mesmerized yet... out of deep admiration for the likes of Vermeer, Rembrandt and John Singer Sargent, I opted for oil paint instead.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Initially, armed with nothing but passion, a basic oil painting kit and a small easel, I launched into the deep. The first (of many) sessions lasted for hours and my husband noted with a smile that I was hooked. I soon found pointers in various books: composition with Jean Baptiste Chardin, critique in the pages of Gregg Kreutz, John Pike and Paul Strisik, inspiration from the gorgeous works of Daniel Gerhatz, my own father, Ad Werner and his striking realism in acrylics; my sister Wanda Werner for her masterful command of watercolor, my step-father Jacques Bouthoorn for his bold and wonderfully colorful... |
