My fascination with art began when I was a young child growing up in New Orleans, La., and watching my uncle create oil paintings. However, not until attending the University of North Texas and deciding to major in painting and drawing, did I gain the training and confidence to call myself an artist.
Four years of study resulted in a degree and a career as a graphic artist, semipro photographer and an educator. Fine art was put on the back burner, although I continued to dabble. Returning to graduate school in the early eighties to complete a masters degree with an emphasis on painting and a trip to Europe renewed my love for creativity and promoted a more dedicated involvement.
In college, I preferred oil painting but in later years I pursued watercolor, a difficult but fascinating medium. At the same time, I became an avid photographer, sometimes carrying two cameras, to get that special shot, resulting in a collection of thousands of images.
