About

maggi debaecke studio 
I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. My major was illustration and after graduation I moved to Philadelphia to begin a career as a fashion illustrator. I worked for Wanamaker and Lit Brothers department stores and within a few years, illustrations for newspapers were replaced with photography. I, and many other illustrators had to find other careers in the arts. For the next twelve years, while raising 2 daughters,I taught illustration,costume history and design at the Studio School of Art and Design, the Hussian School of Art and the Philadelphia College of Textile and Science.During this time I also began experimenting with metals and jewelry design. Eager to learn more about jewelry making I enrolled in the metals program at Tyler School of Art.To augment my education and hone my technical jewelry making skills I took workshops at craft schools, such as, Penland, Haystack, Peters Valley and Touchstone.Gradually I began to improve my skills as a...
