| My earliest memories of myself are wielding a crayon, and I have been drawing and painting ever since. My work is informed by my degree in biology and many years of volunteering in prairie restoration and butterfly monitoring for the Nature Conservancy. I have been fortunate to have lived in many beautiful places; currently my work revolves around the fragile ecosystems at Illinois Beach State Park and other nature areas in northern Illinois. Over the years two other loves have vied for my attention, and I am pleased to be weaving them into my work as well. Horses and gardens have been turning up- I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I love color, and this is what you will see a lot of in my paintings. I work in acrylic, which has the look of oil and will last even better. |
| Demarkation Line Prairie Restoration in full swing | | Circle of Life Something about snags appeals to me enormously. Their stark lines point up, lifting the eye to a broader view. There- can you feel your lungs expand, your shoulders drop as you contemplate the sky and far off vistas?
As well, my eye enjoys traveling along the lines of the dead and twisted wood, and the contrast between it and the surrounding verdure. | | Come Paint With Me at the Chcago Botanic Garden Follow along as we create a painting with a botanical theme. I will take you through the steps of crafting a painting from start to finish over the course of 5 weeks. Along the way we will explore the nuances of working with acrylics on canvas. From vibrant to subtle, washes to impasto, acrylic can do it all. | | Going Out on a Limb I have a new painting to share.. It is of a green-backed night heron I came across in a wetland along a trail I like to travel. | | Saving the world Little things everyone can do |
