| ABOUT CARMEL
Carmel Foglia de la Peña was born in New York. During her early years she was trained in basic drawing skills and oil painting techniques by her uncle, John Giannotti, a well known commercial artist on Long Island.
When Carmel moved to California in 1949, she continued her studies with watercolorists Nells Eric Oback and John De Vincenzi from San Jose State University. Another art teacher, Bonnie Rhoderhurst, introduced her to the world of acrylics.
She has experimented and combined basic art mediums along with other materials to best express her often spontaneous feelings on canvas, paper and board. Carmel's love of nature in all its forms, and her joy for life, have brought forth very interesting textural paintings with many glazes that produce works of a luminous quality.
In 1960 Carmel had her first one woman show. She subsequently exhibited, over a 20 year period, in the following galleries: Harcourts in San Francisco, Shanes of Menlo Park, Erickson in Palo Alto, Cole of Concord,... |
