 | | Here is a mix of some of my favorite portraits.
Many are in oil, but you'll see that I also enjoy using watercolor paint and drawing media such as charcoal, conte crayons and oil pastel.
I love to balance light and dark to illuminate the subject, while playing up subtle textures and colors.
My paintings are usually at (or slightly larger than) life size. |
 | | OK, so I also do the occasional landscape piece. Here are a couple of my favorites... |

Beaverton, OR United States
| I recently moved from Fort Collins, Colorado to Beaverton, Oregon.
While I have enjoyed drawing and painting for most of my life, I am relatively new to the world of professional art. I have also donated several pieces to charity auctions, to such organizations as the Colorado State University Wildlife Society , the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and the Boulder-Jalapa Friendship City Project .
I am inspired by the human face and the challenge of capturing a true likeness of my subject. I strive for a contemporary, realistic style that plays up color, light and contrast. I enjoy painting portraits that place the subject in an interesting, more candid and less traditional pose.

| First layer complete! Now on to refining, smoothing, adding detail (still in the monochrome)... | | Part-way through the underpainting Right now I'm focusing on laying down a base (with greeny-back and white) to get the general feel for the shapes and values of the piece. | | Master's Reproduction- Intro. Here's my first blog- devoted to painting a reproduction of William Bouguereau's Dante and Virgil in Hell (this is a photo of the original). Scary? Yes. But it's also going to teach me a lot about how to paint figures in the classical style. |
