 | | Why boxes? When you receive a gift, the contents of the gift are packed in a box. So the gift box holds the surprise like what's contained in each of Scott's lidded box. Each box is created by cutting out a simple shape like a square or rectangle slab. |
 | | These small lidded boxes were created from 1992 and on-going. Most of them are sold. |
 | | Three piece slab fabrication with only the use of Scott's fingers to stretch and fold the slab to create the facial features like the nose, eyes and lips. These profile heads are inspired by eclectic sources like Hawaiian "Tiki" sculpture; ceramic artist Rudy Autio's clay appendages he called "ears" that are found on his sculptural vessels and ceramic artist Akio Takamori's brushwork on his vessels and sculpture. What is it about the human facial expression? We all do it. |
