Since 2005, I have been chronicling my travels outside of the Midwest. In 2009, I added my trip to Portland Oregon. I have trips planned to Vermont and Arizona in 2012.
 | | My intent is to capture the moment and simultaneously preserve the atmosphere of those places I am visiting. My mother's native France is my first collection, including a barge tour on the Nivernais canal, Normandie and Paris from 2008. |
 | | Images from the Adventurous Wench tour of Southwest Ireland 2010 ~ my first solo journey and my first organized tour.

 | | My photographic inspiration is a part of me that finds beauty and wonder in everyday life .. in my neighborhood and in the city I now call home ~ Chicago. |
 | | It is no secret to those who know me well that I have an avid curiosity about cemeteries in general and unusual headstones and statuary in particular. I have had the opportunity to walk graveyards, sacred sites and cemeteries here and abroad to photograph and experience the serene stillness and unearthly solitude that they afford the visitor. I will add to this gallery as I continue to visit such sites. |

 | | Living in Chicago since 1987, I have traveled frequently and widely throughout this region. I select the most interesting or representative photos for this gallery.

 | | For many years I have been charmed and thrilled by our neighbors to the North - the Canadians. Here are images from my travel to southwestern Ontario in October 2010.
|
 | | In the winter of 2011 I ventured south to escape the snow grey chill of Chicago ... to the rain forest of Belize. My locale was the eco-resort and nature preserve known as Chaa Creek on the border of Guatemala along the Macal River. |
 | | A friend and I traveled to England in May 2011. We visited Bath and Greenwich as well as a journey to Isle of Wight ~ a tradition of including an island in our itinerary. We enjoyed wonderful weather and good food and found the tube to be a model for underground public transportation. |
 | | Never one to join clubs, I found the Meetup community and spin-offs that "focus" their interest in photography in a variety of settings .. I am learning, sharing and meeting some interesting and fun folks. |
 | | My second trip to BC, this one to Quadra Island, between mainland BC and Vancouver Island, was spent on a farm at Bold Point.
|
 | | The last place on my Maman's bucket list was Quebec, the French province of our neighbors to the North. We spent two glorious days and nights there in June 2011.

| Sunday mornings at PAWS I have found a volunteer opportunity that suits me fine. The PAWS Center just 2 miles from home is staffed by 95% volunteer workers ~ the bulk of the funds from adoptions go to the dogs and cats who live in the cozy bright cageless rooms within. So every Sunday morning early I work three hours before they open to the public disinfecting, sweeping, scooping, mopping, window-washing and then petting in Kitty City. | | Epiphany 2012 The holidays are past and the long stretch of winter has begun. I enjoyed an extended visit to my mother's in Florida from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day with a driving trip to Venice FL on the Gulf at mid-week. It is a pleasant experience to journey across the state ~ only 160 miles ~ from the Atlantic coast to the Gulf. | | on the eve of Christmas Eve 2011 The shortest day of the year ~ Winter Solstice ~ has passed. I've draped my purple goth lights in black tulle in a canopy over my bed and burn my mistletoe-scented candles nightly while listening to jazz and classical holiday music. | | Thanksgiving Autumn is moving toward the chilly and grey and nature-naked quality that portends winter. I am staying in the area this year ... no desire to travel even a short distance to take a meal alone. | | the end of summer My 'tourist' travel is over for the year, two trips to see my family in Florida planned for Oct and Dec. The image is from the last festival of the summer - Labor Day weekend on Quadra Island, British Columbia. Face painting, Welly tossing and chicken poop bingo were among the games played by the residents and visitors to this idyllic little island between Vancouver Island and mainland BC. |
