About

Mykel Chiles
I hope this website can give you insight to who I am...an artist, a guy who likes to wear hats, and apparently a guy who likes to stand in the rain. What do dinosaurs, world maps, and ninja turtles have in common? They're just a few of the subjects that I liked sketching in my childhood. I guess it didn't hurt that I wanted to be a Paleontologist, a Cartographer, and of course...a Ninja Turtle at different times in my life. A child's mind can be so random and interesting. I've always loved to draw, and the aforementioned professions didn't hold my attention for very long, so I decided to give this art thing a try. Though my subject matter has narrowed over the years, I'm open to new things and I always love a challenge. Regardless of medium, my art has always reflected the cartoon-like atmosphere of comics, television, and video games and it's highlighted by a vivid color scheme. I also enjoy illustrating stories in my spare time and I hope to write, illustrate, and publish my own book someday.

"A Magik Moment": The Fighter Movie Review
What the movie is: Sometimes a trailer can't hope to capture the depth of emotional storytelling a movie contains. I had no interest in The Fighter as it seemed like another bland underdog boxing story that's been revisited numerous times since the original Rocky . However, The Fighter is more about the fights within the ring.
"A Magik Moment": X-Men: the Arcade Game Retro Game Review
The Game: Arguably the pinnacle in a string of arcade brawlers in the early 90s (man I feel old), X-Men: The Arcade Game was the definition of a quarter muncher. Finally, this old gem was released for Xbox Live Arcade and it's everything you remember...for better or worse. X-Men stars Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, and everyone's favorite last resort, Dazzler. The character designs and story are based on the failed 1989 X-Men pilot episode titled X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men.
"A Magik Moment": Takers Movie Review
What the movie is: There are times when the movie credits roll and one might ask him/herself, “how can I get that time back?” Few movies have made me want to pull out what little hair I have more than Takers . Led by a man named Gordon (Idris Elba), the Takers are a highly skilled group of men who have a knack for pulling off elaborate heists and getting away clean.
"A Magik Moment": Faster Movie Review
What the movie is: The Rock is back! Turning in his "I’m a teddy bear" badge, Dwayne (I’m a serious actor, so don't call me “the Rock”) Johnson is ready to dive back into the genre that Arnold, Sylvester, and others made famous.
"A Magik Moment": Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Movie Review
What the movie is: Turned off by the trailers and the mere sight of Michael Cera, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was a movie that I intentionally avoided for a long time. Directed by Edgar Wright, the man behind Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead , I should have given this film the benefit of the doubt.
