For several years, I've been working with local landscapes. I approach these in two ways; first, I hike in to various sites throughout the Pacific Northwest and make quick paintings on the spot. These works are necessarily small, since they need to fit in my backpack, and quick, since I try to capture the changing conditions of light and atmosphere. The other work I concentrate on are larger paintings that illustrate folktales. These paintings incorporate real and imagined landscapes to reflect the meanings of the sories. I am especially interested in discovering themes that recur in folktales throughout the world.
