Click image for full-size view I was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Arlington, Virginia. After studying art and Spanish at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, I worked for a few years, received a Fulbright grant and lived in Spain for a year, and studied painting at the University of New Hampshire.
Teacups, small birds, shells, toy theaters, forests, dragons, and doll-like people inhabit my recent paintings. I am fascinated by the beauty of small things and the strangeness of miniature worlds, and I hope my work reflects a unifying interest in the feminized and fantastical. My paintings can be lovely and dear, but there is also darkness: a strange scale shift, a dead bird, a mysterious shadow that implies violence or sadness. I think about the vulnerability of the small, a vulnerability which we all share. |
