GENERAL INFORMATION - EDUCATION
Born
The
Hague, the Netherlands, 1953, became a
lawyer in 1979; worked over the next 25 years in The Hague, Brussels, New York, Paris, Johannesburg and Washington, DC.
In
1986, began studying art seriously, first several years with Dutch artist Fred
Adam. In 1995, moved to Johannesburg, South Africa; studied at the
Johannesburg Art Foundation and with painter Thea Soggot and sculptor Isolde
Krams (now in Berlin).
In
2001, moved to Washington, DC, enrolled at the
Corcoran College of Art + Design; obtained Certificate in Drawing and Painting. Studied a.o.
with William Christenberry, Mary del Popolo, Bill Newman, Steve Cushner, Judy
Southerland and Annette Polan. In 2008, took up printmaking there, with Manuel
Navarrete.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

1988
- commission from the President of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague, the Netherlands, to produce a
drawing of the Tribunal building. This drawing was adapted to a limited edition
of prints which are still used as courtesy gifts. In 2003 this image also
became the emblem of the Tribunal's website (until 2012).

2005
- completed 17 portraits of fallen military for the exhibit “Faces of the
Fallen” (2005 – 2007) at the Women In Military Service for America Memorial at
Arlington Cemetery, three of which are included in the permanent collection of
the Pentagon, where they remain on view to the public. The other portraits were given to the next of kin of the fallen.

2006
- design for a painted violin (Homage to Vivaldi) chosen for the fundraising project “Art of Note” of the National
Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC, displayed at the
Kennedy Center Gift Shop and raffled off by composer Marvin Hamlisch during the
NSO Pops Concert on June
1, 2007.

Painting
But Being Mask'd, He Was Not Sure Of It (2007) was
selected by a jury of Washington, DC gallery owners for
a show in Gallery 31 at the Corcoran Museum/College of Art + Design (12-12-07 to 01-06-08).

2008
– a photo from the series Soweto Sunrise
was included in "Pink Attitude" Editions LIZ, Paris, France (2008), the first
in a series of color-themed coffee-table collections of best international
contemporary photography.

2008
– was proposed for and received the Corcoran College Linda and Douglas
Rosenbaum Scholarship for Excellence in Drawing and Painting.
·
2008
- was asked to join the Art Gala Committee and the Artists Selection Committee
of CentroNía, a multicultural, bilingual learning center in Washington, DC, donating two
pieces, and in 2009 joined CentroNía’s Gala Committee and the Artists’
Committee, donating one piece. Donated pieces also in 2010 and 2011.

2008
– 2009 - as a project for the DC Soroptimists, conducted an art workshop for homeless
women in the Mt. Carmel Shelter in downtown Washington, DC.
·
2009
– a photo from the Series Soweto Sunrise,
“You – Bright and New (Soweto)” was selected by juror Clark V. Fox and included
in “Fresh – An Exhibition of Urban Contemporary Art” at the Torpedo Factory Art
Center’s Target Gallery, May 6-31, 2009.
·
2009
– participated in “Courage Unmasked”, a project with more than 100 artists from
the Washington, DC area to make art
out of face masks used in cancer radiation therapy – auctioned on September
9, 2009,
at the Katzen Arts Center at American University to benefit indigents
with head and neck cancer.
· 2010 - spent one month in Madrid, Spain, working in the studio of Spanish artist Genoveva Fernandez; spent two weeks in Italy drawing and painting in Montorno, an artist community near Seravezza (Pisa), Italy. · 2011 - solo show of paintings, sculpture and drawings at the Arts Club of Washington, DC (non-member application to open call for entries), curated by Christopher Wirth, former Curator 19th Century German Art, National Gallery of Art.
PRESENT ACTIVITIES
Working on a new series of drawings and paintings involving trees.
Preparing
for the Art Tour of the RAAC, the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, in November 2012.
