I am a political animal.

I am a political animal. 1/28/08

One thing I have not said about myself is that I tend to be a very politcal animal. I have always had a very keen interest in politics, both because of my background and also because of the various jobs I've had throughout life.

The general elections in Malta are very imminent. The Prime Minister has not set the date yet but very likely they will be held on March 8th. So you may say that the election campaign is heating up.

As I said, I have always liked politics and consequently elections are very exciting times for me. This time around my involvement is even deeper, both because of the appointment I hold and the fact that my son will be contesting the upcoming elections.

Alex is only 25 but for the past two years already he has been the mayor of our little town - also an elected post. He will now be contesting for the national parliament. He doesn't stand a very big chance of being elected but he is still putting a lot of effort into this as another big step in the political career he has always dreamed of. The image I am adding to this blog today is my pencil portrait of him, done about a year ago.

As you may imagine he needs our support, both moral and material.  Add to this my own personal involvement as part of the work I do and you have a mind that is finding it very hard to concentrate on artistic creation at the moment.

This does not mean that I'm going away of course, not even for the duration. I will still be around. What it does mean is that probably I shall be unable to produce any big pieces both for lack of time and more from inability to devote the right sort of energy that art requires.

Perhaps this is the best time to do some small, quick and easy studies I might find useful later on.
