I have never before attempted to write a blog so the first thing I asked myself when I thought of starting one was whether a blog on an art site should be only about art.

I don't think it should.  An artist is first of all a human being with thoughts and emotions about every aspect that makes up life. As this blog progresses I will talk about my art of course but not exclusively. 

To start this off I will reproduce something I wrote yesterday while I was in a reflective mood. It's not a poem but pretty close to one. I called it:

The Cycle of Life:

I remember the times of shimmering jelly and icecream and pin the tail on the pony - it used to be birthday parties then.

Time passed and it was a riot of flying hats and eyes sparkling with hope and idealism... graduations and congratulations.

And then bouquets and confetti and bubbly champagne ... we all got married off one by one.

Christenings and blessings and the patter of tiny feet and the sweet smell of smiling babies.

It seems I only get to go to funerals now.

I wonder if anyone will come to mine.
