| | "Quick" Slab Mask Series These masks are inspired by Japanese "Noh" and Chinese "Opera" masks. A sheet of clay called a slab is draped over a paper mold and then it's left to stiffen slightly. Next, he uses only his hands and fingers to push in, stretch out and fold in the slab to fabricate all the facial features. There is no adding of clay to create the facial features. |
| | | | | "Profile" Slab Mask Series These masks are inspired by ceramic artist Rudy Autio's "ears" on his sculptural vessels; ceramic artist Akio Takamori's brushwork on his figurative vessels and Hawaiian "Tiki" sculptures. These 3-piece slab masks are assembled together at the leatherhard stage. Again, using only his hands and fingers as the tools to push in, stretch out and fold in the slab to fabricate the facial features of each mask expression. Like the quick slab masks there 's no adding of clay to create the facial features. |

| | | | | "Lidded Jar & T-Pot" Series The jar, t-pot, box and shirt series are creations completed prior to the mask series. Scott started creating his jars in 1987. The t-pots are an off shoot of the jars and stacking boxes together. The jar, t-pot and box series are slab constructed, using paper templates to fold and fabricate into lidded forms. |
